John Wolfe started the business in March 1953 as a drainage contractor with a new wheel trencher and successfully operated that business until June 1967. At that time he sold the trenching business and started Wolfe Equipment. This company manufactured and supplied parts for all types of trenching equipment.

In 1969, Wolfe Equipment became the Barth Holland distributor for North America and acquired the Buckeye wheel trencher distributorship in 1970. In 1978, the company purchased A.D.S Manufacturing of Cincinatti, Ohio.

Wolfe manufactured their first proto-type self propelled drainage plow and delivered it to the customer in April 1979. After successful testing in 1979, six additional machines were sold by June 1980. Currently there are machines operating in all Canadian provinces that are active in drainage work.

To expand the business, Wolfe acquired a U.S. distributorship, A & E Construction Supply in Truman, Minnesota. Slatters Inc. of Francesville, Indiana also became a distributor. Since that time, machines have sold in California, Florida, Washington, the Dakotas and Wisconsin, just to mention a few.

When covering such a large area as this, Wolfe has encountered a wide range of soil types, climatic conditions and special application for different machines. Wolfe has stepped up to these challenges and kept their equipment advancing with other technological advancements. Currently, machines are installing fiber optic cable and PVC gas lines as well as steel pipe for oil fields both in the United States and Canada. For the last twenty years, Wolfe has been manufacturing completely hydrostatically driven track and rubber tired equipment. This has eliminated a large percentage of moving parts such as transmissions, drive shafts, belts, pulleys and right angle drives. This has greatly reduced down time and operating costs of the machines and increased the output of the equipment.

With forty five years of experience in the industry and the servicing of all manufacturers' equipment, Wolfe has been able to develop equipment with much greater service life and lower operating costs.
